At 10am last Wednesday, Clavia Chambers and her two young children were evicted from their Brixton home and denied rehousing by Lambeth council.

Clavia insists that the arrears are down to mistakes in calculating her benefits when she took up part-time work – as a lone parent of 2 young children, who never earned more than £100 per week, she feels angry that the housing benefit she was entitled to was not paid and that the council are punishing her for their mistakes.

Today, Clavia reoccupied her flat and was joined by Lambeth Housing Activists who invited the community to come down and show their support.

Lambeth Housing Activists has just told Buzz:
Clavia Chambers has just been forced to abandon her peaceful protest occupying the flat that she was evicted from last week when police made it clear they were going to break down the door and arrest her.
Clavia could not run the risk of this leading to her children being taken into care. Lambeth Council could have agreed to let Clavia stay in her home while they review her case but again she has been forcibly thrown on the streets.
