Work has finally started on building the new Ovalhouse Theatre on the junction of Coldharbour Lane and Somerleyton Road.
This has involved a wall going up around the site (which includes Carlton Mansions), and several trees being felled in the former car park.

Once home to a long term community, Carlton Mansions has criminally been left empty and rotting away since Sept 2014 after its tenants were forcibly hoofed out by Lambeth.
It will eventually be used for workshops within the new theatre complex.
The first phase of work should see the completion of the new theatre (above) and associated workspaces completed in 2020.
The theatre is being designed by Foster Wilson Associates, famous for their work on the Tricycle Theatre in Kilburn and a new theatre for Royal Holloway University, while Carlton Mansions is being re-furbished by stroppy Zac Monro Architects of Brixton.
